Airtel Run for Education 2015, Kolkata

Kolkata, 5th November, 2015: Round Table India, the national social service organisation, and Bharti Airtel today announced the 2nd edition of Airtel Run for Education 2015, Kolkata – The city’s only fund raising sporting event contributing towards the cause of education for underprivileged children. The 2015 leg of this annual event will be held on the 29th November, flagged off from the City Centre Saltlake and expects to see participation of around 7,000 runners from across Kolkata.
RUN-FOR-EDUCATION is a fund raising sporting event which is organized to support the cause of providing education for the underprivileged children, signifying ‘Freedom through education’. This initiative was taken by Round Table India in 2014 and the inception year witnessed ardent participation from various walks of life, like corporate, students, families and more. The event brought enthusiastic professional and novice runners on one platform defining the true spirit of humanity and sportsmanship and generating awareness for education and fitness for all. Funds raised through this event in 2014, was used towards building classroom facilities in Vivekananda Vidya Mandir, Barasat and the recipient of this year’s aid would be Sarada Sishu Mandir, Tanterberia, Howrah.
The opening of registration was announced in the presence of Ravindra Singh Negi, CEO – West Bengal & Odisha, Bharti Airtel Limited, Suman Voora, National President – RTI, prominent sports personality like Saurav Goshal.
Commenting on the launch, Ravindra Singh Negi, CEO – West Bengal & Odisha, Bharti Airtel, said, “We are truly excited to be a part of Airtel Run for Education 2015, as it fosters our core brand essence of human connections and brings thousands of people together to celebrate the spirit of running. On the occasion Suman Voora, National President – RTI, said “Round Table India has taken up the noble cause to nurture the education of the underprivileged children of the society, by giving them freedom through education. We are honored and humbled by the support received from corporates, media and the people of Kolkata.”
Airtel Run for Education 2015, Kolkata will have three race categories over 5 km, 10 km and 21 km distances. With the run witnessing 5000 participants last year, over a high 7000+ participants are expected to run from City Centre, Saltlake on 29th November, 2015 at 5:30 am. Automated Race Photo Tagging will be used for all participants, whereby they will be able to get live photo uploads on Facebook along with their performance indicators and RFID would be used as a part of smart technology to judge the run timings for the 10 and 21km participants.
Airtel Run for Education 2015, Kolkata is the first running event in the country to have its own official mobile game and app. Designed and created by RJS Tech, an award winning game developer based out of Kolkata, the app contains an exciting sporting trivia and also provides the participating runners with the race map, race information and the option to track individual race timings.
